Thorough Oven Cleaning: 3 Effective Natural Methods to Remove Grease

Keeping your oven clean is essential, but it often feels like a daunting task, especially with the grease that accumulates on the walls and racks. Over time, this grease hardens due to heat, making it very difficult to remove. While industrial degreasers are commonly used, they can be highly toxic. Here, we introduce three natural and effective methods to clean your oven thoroughly.

Method 1: Disinfect and Clean with Salt

Salt is a versatile kitchen staple, not only enhancing the flavor of our dishes but also serving as an excellent cleaning agent due to its degreasing and disinfectant properties.

Steps:

  1. Mix 500 ml of white vinegar with 250 grams of salt until the salt dissolves.
  2. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and shake well.
  3. Spray the solution generously inside the oven, covering all surfaces.
  4. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Scrub with a sponge to remove the grime.
  6. Wipe with a damp cloth to eliminate any residue, leaving the oven spotless.

Method 2: Lemon for Grease Removal

Lemon is renowned for its disinfectant and degreasing properties. It also leaves a fresh, natural scent.

Steps:

  1. Cut three lemons in half and squeeze the juice into a saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan in a preheated oven at 250°C (482°F) for about 30 minutes.
  3. After removing the saucepan, let the oven cool.
  4. Wipe down the oven with a damp cloth to remove grease and food residues.
  5. Ensure the saucepan is oven-safe before using.

Method 3: The Classic Vinegar and Baking Soda Method

The combination of vinegar and baking soda is a powerful cleaner. Both ingredients have excellent degreasing and disinfecting properties, capable of restoring your oven’s steel surfaces to their original shine.

Steps:

  1. Mix 100 ml of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a spray bottle. Allow the mixture to react until the fizzing stops.
  2. Spray the mixture throughout the oven.
  3. Heat the oven to 120°C (248°F) for about 10 minutes.
  4. Turn off the oven and let it cool.
  5. Wipe thoroughly with a damp sponge to remove all traces of grease and residue.

By using these natural methods, you can effectively clean your oven without the need for harsh chemicals, ensuring a safer and healthier kitchen environment.
