Cube Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients:
- 4 pieces of cube steak (approximately 1 pound)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions:
- Prepare the Steaks: Season the cube steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge each steak in flour, ensuring excess flour is shaken off.
- Sear the Steaks: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the cube steaks on both sides until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: Using the same skillet, add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook until they are softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Make the Gravy: Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Combine and Simmer: Return the seared steaks to the skillet. Cover and simmer for approximately 20 minutes, or until the meat is tender.
- Serve: Place the steaks on a serving plate and spoon the mushroom gravy over the top.
