Creamy Puff Pastry Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs
This delightful recipe, commonly known as “profiteroles” or “cream puffs,” is a classic favorite.
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 390°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat the Water and Salt: In a medium saucepan, combine the water and salt. Heat over medium heat until the mixture boils.
- Melt the Butter: Add the cubed butter to the saucepan. Stir until the butter is completely melted.
- Incorporate the Flour: Add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Cool the Dough: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes.
- Add the Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, until the batter is smooth and homogenous.
- Prepare the Pastry Bag: Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a round nozzle.
- Form the Profiteroles: Pipe small, walnut-sized balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them adequately to allow for expansion during baking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the profiteroles are golden brown and firm to the touch.
- Cool: Remove the profiteroles from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
Serving Suggestions
Once the profiteroles have cooled completely, you can cut them in half and fill them with custard, whipped cream, or ice cream. For an extra touch, sprinkle them with icing sugar before serving.
