Buttered Beef Steak Recipe

Ingredients

FOR THE STEAK BITES:

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

FOR THE MASHED POTATOES:

  • 2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Preparation

FOR THE MASHED POTATOES:

  1. Boil the Potatoes: In a large pot, cover the cubed potatoes with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Mash the Potatoes: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, then mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.

FOR THE STEAK BITES:

  1. Prepare the Steak: Season the steak bites with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Steak: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the steak bites in a single layer (do this in batches if necessary) and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they are well-browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add 2 tablespoons of butter, the minced garlic, thyme, and rosemary. Cook, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Combine Steak with Sauce: Return the steak bites to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the steak is heated through and well-coated with the sauce. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until melted.

TO SERVE:

  1. Plate the Dish: Serve the steak bites over the mashed potatoes. Drizzle any remaining garlic butter sauce from the skillet over the top.
  2. Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh parsley and chives, if desired.

Enjoy!
