Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup fresh cream
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, brown sugar, and salt.
  2. Incorporate Butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Using your hands, mix until the texture becomes grainy.
  3. Form the Dough: Add the egg and vanilla essence to the mixture. Continue working the dough until it reaches a uniform consistency. Press the dough firmly into the bottom and sides of a pie tin.
  4. Chill the Dough: Place the pie tin in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C).
  5. Prepare for Baking: After chilling, remove the pie tin from the freezer. Pour the fresh cream over the prepared pastry.
  6. Bake the Pie: Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is firm.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool before unmolding and serving.
  8. Optional Finishing Touch: If desired, sprinkle icing sugar over the pie before serving for a decorative touch.
