Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup A.1. Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • Sliced provolone cheese
  • Hamburger buns, sliders, or your choice of bread

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef Mixture:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and crumble the ground beef with the diced onion, chopped green pepper, and salt until the beef is fully browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Thicken the Mixture:
Sprinkle the cornstarch over the cooked beef mixture and stir until the beef is evenly coated. Pour in the beef broth, A.1. Sauce, and steak seasoning. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Simmer:
Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture should thicken as it cooks and will continue to thicken as it cools slightly.
  4. Prepare the Buns:
While the meat is simmering, preheat the oven to broil. Place the buns on a baking sheet and butter each one. Broil for a few minutes until they are lightly toasted. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
  5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Using a slotted spoon, scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top the beef mixture with a slice of provolone cheese. Broil the assembled buns for a few more minutes, just until the cheese is melted.
  6. Serve:
Place the top bun with melted cheese over the bottom bun with the beef mixture. Serve immediately and enjoy while warm!
