Cube Steak with Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of cube steak (approximately 1 pound)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steaks: Season the cube steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge each steak in flour, ensuring excess flour is shaken off.
  2. Sear the Steaks: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the cube steaks on both sides until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Vegetables: Using the same skillet, add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook until they are softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Make the Gravy: Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  5. Combine and Simmer: Return the seared steaks to the skillet. Cover and simmer for approximately 20 minutes, or until the meat is tender.
  6. Serve: Place the steaks on a serving plate and spoon the mushroom gravy over the top.
